I recently came across a post on social media, that deeply troubled me. A mother, presumably a Christian, was expressing her distress over her teenage child, who was taking a decision to become an atheist. She labeled her child with harsh terms and sought help from the public, to help convince her daughter that she was demonic. This post struck a chord with me, because I, too, grew up in a very religious home where Christianity was introduced to me by force. This approach made me resent the faith rather than embrace it. The more it was nailed in me, the more I didn't want anything to do with it. This experience has inspired me to write about the importance of showing mercy to both believers and non-believers.  I believe Mercy is an important aspect of our faith, and it is something we should extend to everyone, regardless of their beliefs or actions. Grace; God's gift. H ave you ever received a gift so good that you couldn't believe it was free? That's exactly what God's grace through Jesus Christ is like. We don't have to earn or work for it because it's a gift, given freely to anyone who believes. Growing up, I always thought being a good person and following all the rules to perfection was the way to get right with God and everyone. But the Bible tells us something different. In Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved THROUGH FAITH and it's not from ourselves, it's the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast" this means our salvation is a gift from God, not something we can achieve by our own efforts. Example, Abraham, whom we call our father of faith. When he walked on earth, the commandments were not yet given, by which he would have been judged from. G ood. A four letter word, so simple, yet complicated enough to keep everyone on toes, aiming for it.  To begin, let's define what good is, according to the dictionary. 1) Having the required qualities of a high standard 2) To be desired or approved of 3) Virtuous, right, commendable 4) That which is morally righteous And so on... Majority of people, lead with these dictionary definitions of what good is. Personally, I used to.  I spent all my life calling myself a good person. Why? Because I really believed I was. I gave to the needy, I stood up for minorities, I WENT TO CHURCH, I empathized with people from different walks of life and most importantly, PEOPLE called me good. On the other hand, when I would meet someone who saw me as something other than good, my ego would be bruised and I would spend that time trying to fix their perception of me. T he topic of sin is something so broad that many religious and even non religious people still lack clarity on. Ever so often you see it in the way we socialize; individually measuring the other person's credibility according to certain factors that we uphold as the standard for human morality. These standard could stem from various social constructs, varying from culture to culture, the education system, the political system,the difference in environments, race, tribe and so on.  Many times you hear these remarks from people claiming the Christian faith, other religions and also people who practice no form of spirituality (mostly given the term; Atheists), that "Christians are not even following their beliefs/Bible", "Christians are hypocrites", "They are all sinners claiming to be holy" and many other judgements. Well, Is this true then? Probably. Is this false? Probably. How then can we measure the credibility of the claims? By who's standard?...
