WHY ARE THERE SO MANY SINNERS IN CHRISTIANITY

The topic of sin is something so broad that many religious and even non religious people still lack clarity on. Ever so often you see it in the way we socialize; individually measuring the other person's credibility according to certain factors that we uphold as the standard for human morality.

These standard could stem from various social constructs, varying from culture to culture, the education system, the political system,the difference in environments, race, tribe and so on. 

Many times you hear these remarks from people claiming the Christian faith, other religions and also people who practice no form of spirituality (mostly given the term; Atheists), that "Christians are not even following their beliefs/Bible", "Christians are hypocrites", "They are all sinners claiming to be holy" and many other judgements.

Well, Is this true then? Probably.

Is this false? Probably.

How then can we measure the credibility of the claims? By who's standard? By what and who's law? By who's authority?

Many will agree that the so called christians, follow what is known as the Bible. This to them, it is a holy book and the revealed word of God, to not only Christians themselves but the entire human race. To them, it's a guide book and the ultimate standard for morality. The Christian faith recognizes that our goodness isn't measured by human standards but anchored in God's word(The Bible).

The Bible itself as the book of the law as viewed by Christians, is claimed to have 614 laws from the old testament and some other additional laws from the new testament. And it is commanded for every one of the laws to be followed to perfection and failure to do so, you invite the plagues that come as consequences. It is said that even the breaking of one law as being angry on another person, you will have broken all of them. So, there is a requirement for every law to be fulfilled in righteousness.  

It is written in 1Peter 1:16 "since it's written 'you shall be holy, for I am Holy '. "

Being Holy/Righteous is equated to something that is sacred. Something that is viewed to have no fault or rather, holding the measure of what is perfect.

But we then realize, we are humans and human beings in a fallen state, are prone to wrong doing (also known as sin/transgression of those laws). Unless you have a medical condition in regards to a normal emotional response, every human being at a certain situation that is not pleasant, instinctively reacts with emotions that for the most part are not positive. You cannot escape it. It is simply just being human. 

So then, the Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"

Again in another it says, in Romans 3:10 "As it is written, 'None is righteous, no not one'. "

The Bible takes account that none is found worthy and therefore it is not exclusive to any group. It touches every life and in every way, we fall short. The point of Christian faith is not to claim holiness BUT to recognize our unworthiness and how it is essential for growth. (Then, if anyone claims perfection, run! You're probably dealing with a cult).

Since we've seen no one can keep the law to it's full measure as human beings, but we are required to, what then should we do? 

Recognize that we are all sinners. Whether Christian or non Christian. To understand that something as small as lying can condemn you to have broken all laws. 

How then can one be justified? In Romans 3:21-22 "But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the Law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it ²²The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: "

We can therefore focus our energy in recognizing the root of the issue which is sin.

As it is written in Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Imagine someone struggling with gossip? Should we then go gossiping about the gossiper? Are we not then part of the problem?

If we see someone name calling others in abusive language, do we then abuse the abuser because of his deeds? What profit does it do? 

If we see a thief stealing what belongs to another, do we then show the thrift a route of escape so they can't be caught? 

If we see someone disrespectful to the parent, do we encourage they should even get government backing to enable their disobedience? 

These are just a few of many qualities of why human beings can never measure up to the law. Rather than condemning people to our own expectations of what it means to be right, we can ourselves be an example by not repaying wrong with a wrong but being a light, a salt, a city set on a hill; a reminder of good amongst evil, a light in the darkness, a truth in the illusion and so on. 

Recognize that even a non-christian living a moral life, falls short of God's standard. Instead, we can share the gospel (John 3:16) which promises salvation through faith in the Christ.

In Christianity, Sin unites us all, God's word leads us all and grace offers hope to us all. Our shared humanity points us to the savior who redeems us.
